Jim Schultz, a well known senior rail and trucking industry safety practitioner and change leader, and Brian Fielkow, CEO of Houston-based Jetco Delivery and safety culture expert, are proud to announce the Safety Leadership Symposium and Workshop, a gathering of national leaders, experts and advocates dedicated to safety in the workplace for employees and the public occurring Thursday, September 22 in Houston, Texas.
A recent report by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) found that 10,388 severe injuries caused by workplace conditions occurred in the U.S in 2015, or 30 cases a day. The Safety Leadership Symposium has been created not to just recognize this issue, but to bring together some of the greatest minds in workplace safety to discuss how to build a healthy safety culture.
“A culture of positive safety is a driver of employee engagement—a key constituent of top-tier performance. When people feel that management cares about them as individuals, they willingly reciprocate with differential effort that propels companies ahead of competitors,” said Schultz. “This unprecedented gathering is an opportunity to bring some of the best minds in the business together to talk about how to achieve and sustain safety excellence.”
“Safety seminars have a habit of focusing solely on compliance, rules and regulations. While important, this event will instead address what really drives safe outcomes: safety culture including uncompromising leadership engagement and employee ownership,” said Fielkow. “We’re going to delve into what companies must do to ensure both the individual and organization as a whole understands accountability for safety and how to apply it successfully.”
- Five world-renowned leaders in safety expertise will join Schultz and Fielkow:
- Mike Mullane – Former NASA Astronaut
- Deborah A.P. Hersman – President and CEO, National Safety Council
- The Honorable Robert L. Sumwalt III – Board Member, National Transportation Safety Board
- James A. Stem – Former National Legislative Director, Sheet Metal, Air, & Rail Transportation Union
- Heidi Jenkins – International ‘Life Changer’ Safety Advocate
Each will lead workshops on maximizing managerial and team performance as well as share presentations about maintaining operations responsible for the execution of safety.
This conference, which will take place at the DoubleTree Hotel (15747 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Houston, Texas) from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. is occurring in conjunction with release Fielkow’s second book which he co-authored with Schultz, Leading People Safely: How to Win on the Business Battlefield.
