Lakewood recently announced that residents in 2024 achieved a total recycling rate of 59.92 percent — second highest in Cuyahoga County. âThe strategic investments by the city are producing results,â Mayor Meghan George said âLakewood has been a leader in recycling and sustainability efforts for decades.â
The Cuyahoga County Solid 91²Ö¿â District 2024 Annual Report & Residential Recycling Report noted a 3.43 percent increase in Lakewood over 2023. The city also recycled 19,433.67 tons of organic material. That includes food waste, yard waste, leaves, grass and brush.
Lakewood Public Works Director Chris Gordon said that since recycling is a priority for most residents, heâs not surprised about the increase. âWe fully understand that the recycling industry is ever-changing,â he said. âIt just shows that the residents of Lakewood are adapting to that change and continuing to move forward with success.â
