The city of Decatur is working with CompostNow to launch a curbside residential composting program. The city’s program is subscription-based, costing $19 per month. Participating households will receive a seven-gallon curbside compost collection bin that will be picked up weekly.

The city commission approved a contract with CompostNow at its April 6 meeting. “CompostNow will manage the program logistics and administration, and finished compost will be returned to local farms and community gardens throughout the Atlanta Metropolitan area, supporting regional health,” Assistant City Manager Cara Scharer said.

David Paull, co-founder and chief impact officer of CompostNow, said at the Decatur City Commission’s April 6 meeting that residents will be able to purchase compost. All food waste and compostable materials collected will be taken to CompostNow’s facility in Meriwether County.
