Coon Rapids will receive access to more than $220,000 to support its residential recycling program under a grant agreement approved by the Anoka County Board. The funding comes through Minnesota’s Select Committee on Recycling and the Environment program, commonly known as SCORE.
SCORE funding is distributed to counties and communities for programs that reduce waste, increase recycling and keep reusable materials out of landfills. The newly approved contract allows Coon Rapids to use more than $220,000 for its local recycling program. Anoka County did not specify in its announcement how the city will divide the award among individual services or initiatives.
Coon Rapids operates a recycling center and offers residents access to programs involving household recyclables, organics, specialty materials and waste-reduction education. The award comes as Minnesota communities face increasing expectations to divert recyclable and organic materials from landfills.
