The Sacramento Kings and Recology announced a multi-year partnership, naming the brand the official sustainability and zero waste partner of the team. Recology will handle all waste, recycling, and composting services for Golden 1 Center and Downtown Commons (DOCO), starting this year and continuing through the 2027-28 NBA season.
“We are proud to partner with Recology to further elevate our arena’s waste diversion and composting services,” said Sacramento Kings President of Business Operations John Rinehart. “Through this partnership, we aim to continue to promote sustainable practices for future generations of Kings fans.”
“Recology is proud to be the official Sustainability Partner of the Sacramento Kings. They understand the importance of sustainability and what it means to be environmental stewards,” said Recology Chief Executive Officer Salvatore M. Coniglio. “We are honored to provide them with the resources and solutions to achieve their goals both on and off the court.”
With sustainability at the forefront, Recology will enhance the Kings composting program at Golden 1 Center and strengthen the arena’s efficiency for recycling and waste management services. Recology will also be the presenting partner of the team’s Zero 91ֿ Night during the 2024-25 NBA Season to promote sustainability.
Awarded Environmental Innovator of the Year by Green Sports Alliance and Sustainable Business of the Year for Energy Conservation by BERC, the Sacramento Kings commitment to sustainability resulted in Golden 1 Center being the first arena awarded LEED platinum designation with the most innovative food program in sports sourcing 90% of food within 150 miles. The team is dedicated to sustainable practices including opening a Tesla Supercharger Station for Golden 1 Center and DOCO patrons, launching the Second That program aimed at eliminating food waste by donating unused/unprepared food to families in need, and the Solar Days initiative to reduce power usage on “dark days” at the arena implemented in the summer of 2018.
