After nearly a decade of operating off-site, the Kanawha County Solid 91²Ö¿â Authority is finally bringing its recycling operations back to its original spot. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the new recycling processing building. Slack Street Recycling Center first opened in the 1990s. The original processing building was demolished in 2015 due to major structural issuesâ leaving the county without a permanent home to process the materials and having to haul recycling to a location in Edens Fork.
Executive Director of the Authority, Nicole Hunter said this new building is an effort 10 years in the making. Hunter thanked all of those connected to the recycling center for their unwavering support.
âWe really couldnât do anything,â Hunter said. âWe wouldnât be here if it werenât for the residents of the county–the individuals who utilize our program, our facility. We thank them because theyâre the dedicated individuals. And, of course, we couldnât have done it without the funding from the Kanawha County Commission and the Department of Environmental Protectionâs Reap Grant Program.â
