As regulatory compost quality standards tighten and contamination levels in incoming waste streams continue to rise, well-engineered processing technology is increasingly critical for the economical treatment of biosolids and compost. IFE Material Handling addresses this challenge with the AEROSELECTOR, a machine separating up to four fractions in one pass. The AEROSELECTOR separates stones, plastic foils, and structural material from composted materials, resulting in a high-quality compost product. In the AEROSELECTOR, feed material is presented to a controlled air stream in a uniformly distributed layer. Light particles with a high surface area, low-density particles, such as plastic film are entrained and discharged as a light fraction. Dense particles, such as stones, fall out of the air stream as a heavy fraction. With the ability to adjust the system’s airflow, operators can tune the separation cut point to changing feed material compositions and target end-product qualities. A star screen subsequently separates oversized material such as woody particles that can be recirculated in the composting process. The AEROSELECTOR can be easily integrated into a complete processing line, including additional IFE machines, such as magnetic separators for ferrous metals, eddy current separators for removing non-ferrous metals and vibratory screens for size classification of compost products. When it comes to screening, IFE offers machines with flexible screen linings that deliver high screening quality on both moist and dry raw compost, all with low maintenance requirements. A feed hopper at the beginning of the process line provides a steady material flow to ensure optimal process efficiency and uptime. The result of this IFE solution is a high-throughput, energy- and labor-efficient system that reduces operating hours for wheel loaders compared to mobile screening solutions.
