The U.S. EPA has recently awarded the Miami-Dade County Department of Solid 91²Ö¿â Management (DSWM) a grant totaling $1,483,400 for the acquisition of 21 new heavy vehicle models. This grant aims to fund the procurement of vehicles that are projected to reduce diesel emissions significantly, compared to older models currently in the DSWM fleet. The funding is provided under the EPAâs 2023 Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) program, which is designed to advance the agencyâs goal of fostering a clean and healthy environment, as well as ensuring clean air for all.
âThis EPA grant represents a significant advancement toward establishing a more resilient, cleaner and healthier environment for our community,â said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. âThis investment in our fleet not only demonstrates our commitment to sustainability but also helps protect the well-being of our residents and the quality of our air. Together, we are making strides toward a healthier future for all.”
âWe are extremely gratified by this award, which empowers us to further our mission to âprovide our customers with exceptional waste collection and disposal services that protect, preserve, and improve our environmentâ and making Miami-Dade a more sustainable and resilient community,â stated DSWM Director Aneisha Daniel, PhD.
