The Borough of Pompton Lakes and the Borough of Oakland announces the execution of a five-year Shared Services Agreement for solid waste, recycling, and vegetative waste collection services. The agreement will take effect on July 1, 2026, and remain in place through December 31, 2030.
Using Pompton Lakesâ personnel and equipment, the Borough of Pompton Lakes will provide the same comprehensive solid waste, recycling, and vegetative waste collection services that residents of the Borough of Oakland currently receive, along with designated collection services at municipal and school facilities. The program includes solid waste collection, dual-stream recycling pickup, seasonal vegetative waste collection, and monthly metals and white goods collection.
The collection frequency for Oakland residents will remain unchanged, with services occurring Monday through Friday across two collection districts â the north side and south side. Garbage will continue to be collected twice per week and recycling will continue on a rotating bi-weekly schedule, with paper and co-mingled materials collected on alternating weeks. Vegetative waste, including leaves, grass clippings, and brush, will be collected weekly from early April through mid-December, with pickups occurring on Thursdays and Fridays, respectively, instead of Mondays and Tuesdays. In addition, Oakland residents will have full access to the newly refurbished Recycling Center in Pompton Lakes located off Grove Street.
âThis shared services agreement represents a significant milestone for Pompton Lakes and reflects the continued commitment of both communities to regional collaboration and cost-effective service delivery,â said Mayor Michael Serra of Pompton Lakes. âAs the first agreement of its kind for our Borough, it demonstrates how municipalities can work together to maintain high-quality sanitation services while generating long-term value and savings for taxpayers.â
Mayor Eric Kulmala of Oakland added, âPartnering with Pompton Lakes strengthens inter-municipal cooperation, and enables Oakland to continue providing reliable, comprehensive sanitation services to our residents on a long-term basis at a significantly reduced costâ.
