Olmsted County broke ground on a new MRF in southeast Rochester. County officials celebrated the start of construction on the MRF, which will help Olmsted and surrounding counties recycle by sorting waste and recyclables.

The facility will help improve fuel efficiency and reduce waste. Michael Cook, Olmsted County Environmental Resources associate director, said the facility is step one in preserving the waste facilities already in the county.

“This facility is being built here in Rochester to serve as a regional facility, for the benefit of the residents of Olmsted and the surrounding counties,” Cook said.
