ReGen Monterey and the Sort with Heart campaign will unveil a new public mural celebrating sustainability, culture, and community at 12pm Thursday, December 18, at 1350 Fremont Blvd. in Seaside, on the Farmers Insurance building. Created by local artist Hanif Panni, the mural was developed in partnership with Blue Strike Environmental and guided by the Arts Council for Monterey County. The project is part of ReGen Monterey and Salinas Valley Recycles’ regional education and outreach initiative funded by CalRecycle to raise awareness about SB 1383, California’s Short Lived Climate Pollutants Reduction Act, which includes food scrap composting to reduce methane emissions.
The mural celebrates how mindful actions, like properly sorting food scraps into your green cart, can give back to the earth and feed local farms and gardens for generations to come. “Art has the power to capture a moment and celebrate who we are,” said Seaside Councilmember and ReGen Monterey Board Member Alexis Garcia-Arrazola. “This mural is a reflection of Seaside’s commitment to sustainability and it reminds us that every small action can help protect the place we call home. Seaside’s strength lies in its people, and together, we can build a city where creativity and care for the environment go hand in hand. I’m deeply grateful to the Arts Council for Monterey County, ReGen Monterey, and artist Hannif Panni for this inspiring tribute to our community.”
