Reworld™ partnered with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office on April 25 to support the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, helping local residents safely dispose of unused and expired medications.

At two sites across Loudon County, Reworld™ partnered with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office to collect unused and expired medications, resulting in a total of 628 pounds safely removed from the community. Reworld™ also distributed prescription drug mail-back envelopes, which residents can take home, place unwanted medications inside, and return via mail for secure disposal.

Events like these are designed to raise awareness around the importance of proper medication disposal, helping keep controlled substances out of the wrong hands and preventing them from entering the environment.

Collected materials are securely managed and transported for destruction at a Reworld™ Thermomechanical Treatment Facility (TTF), where they are processed through a high-temperature, environmentally responsible system. This process ensures medications are rendered non-retrievable in accordance with DEA standards, while also preventing landfill contamination and reducing the risk of diversion.

Reworld™ regularly partners with law enforcement agencies nationwide to support DEA Take Back Day initiatives each April and October, helping communities safely manage unused medications and promote responsible disposal practices.
