San Diego residents can apply for financial assistance to cover the annual fees for trash and recycling services. Through a partnership with the Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee on Anti-Poverty of San Diego County Inc. (MAAC), the new Solid 91ֿ Management Fee Financial Assistance Program is paid for by $3 million from the City’s fiscal year 2026 budget and more than $60,000 in donations pledged by City customers, officials said.

“With today’s launch of the new Financial Assistance Program, we are excited to fulfill a commitment shaped through our engagement with residents across San Diego over the past two years,” Jeremy Bauer, the Assistant Director of Environmental Services, said in a release. “Supported by City leaders, strengthened by customer donations, and administered by a nonprofit with deep local knowledge, the program is designed to provide meaningful assistance while reaching as many qualifying households as possible.”

City of San Diego’s Environmental Services Department customers can apply for financial assistance online, and in-person assistance will be available citywide, at various community locations for those who need help with the application process.
