The 91²Ö¿â Commission of Scott County has reached a major milestone. The Scott Area Recycling Center has sorted 1 billion pounds from the Quad Cities area since curbside collection started in 1995.
In that same time period, people who live in the area have saved:
- Over a billion kilowatts of electricity
- Over two billion gallons of water
- Over a million barrels of oil
When the center opened in 1995, officials said it was sorting between 7,000 and 9,000 tons of recyclables each year. Now, the facility processes 40,000 tons of material each year.
