BIOINNOVATION SYSTEMS, LLC® announces that it has earned the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Certified Biobased Product Label for Made to Degrade™(M2D™) bioresins. Using M2D™ technology, BIOINNOVATION SYSTEMS® has been able to patent a first-of-its-kind organic pelletizing system for biochar.

Pelletized biochar is not only an improvement – it is the future. The potential of biochar has been constrained by its physical limitations for generations. The transformation of biochar from a loose, powdery substance into dense, uniform pellets represents far more than technical improvement – it is a paradigm shift in how the industry efficiently harnesses carbon for ecological restoration, industrial agriculture, and green energy production.

M2D™ bioresins can now display a unique USDA label highlighting its 100% bio-based and biobased carbon content. The USDA Certified Biobased Product Label displays a product’s biobased content, which is the portion of a product that comes from a renewable source, such as plant, animal, marine, or forestry feedstocks. Utilizing renewable biobased materials replaces the need for non-renewable petroleum-based chemicals.

“Made to Degrade™ bioresins offer a platform for ecological and commercial transformation,” said Nicholas J. Condon, Director of Strategic Initiatives, “This certification proves that sustainability doesn’t have to be a compromise – we’re replacing petroleum-based materials with cost-effective, plant-derived chemistry that performs just as well, if not better.”

“We applaud BIOINNOVATION SYSTEMS® for earning the USDA Certified Biobased Product Label,” said Vernell Thompson of the USDA BioPreferred Program. “By having their products become USDA Certified Biobased, BIOINNOVATION SYSTEMS® joins an expanding list of businesses combatting inaccurate marketing claims and the practice of greenwashing, while also contributing to a thriving bioeconomy that decreases our reliance on petroleum.”

This breakthrough creates more than new market opportunities. In fact, industry expert Frank Jacques, BIOINNOVATION SYSTEMS’® Chief Engineer, believes, “Organically pelletized biochar could very well reshape the future of the industry.”
