Cincinnati Recycling and Reuse Hub is celebrating five years, and they have diverted tons of trash from landfills. The Lower Price Hill facility accepts hard-to-recycle waste and diverts it away from the landfill. Last year, nearly 600,000 pounds were diverted.

Executive Director Chad Planner said a team of volunteers called the Tinker Team is able to save about 60% of electronics others think is junk. The salvaged items are then donated to Newlife Furniture Bank.  Other items are sent to outside facilities.

“All of the clam shells, like the fruit clam shells, those number ones -they’re number ones- they get sent to a place in Texas that grinds them up and makes new clam shells,” Planner said.
