Cincinnati Recycling and Reuse Hub is celebrating five years, and they have diverted tons of trash from landfills. The Lower Price Hill facility accepts hard-to-recycle waste and diverts it away from the landfill. Last year, nearly 600,000 pounds were diverted.
Executive Director Chad Planner said a team of volunteers called the Tinker Team is able to save about 60% of electronics others think is junk. The salvaged items are then donated to Newlife Furniture Bank. Â Other items are sent to outside facilities.
“All of the clam shells, like the fruit clam shells, those number ones -they’re number ones- they get sent to a place in Texas that grinds them up and makes new clam shells,” Planner said.
