By converting waste materials into eco-friendly, high-value fuels, we can close resource loops, reduce dependence on fossil energy and accelerate the circular economy.
Author: Brock Harrington, Global Alternative Fuels Sales Director
Every day, millions of tons of waste reach the end of the line—or at least that’s what we used to think. But now, thanks to CPM’s industry-leading pellet mill and processing technologies, those same waste streams are being converted into renewable fuels that support a circular economy and help industries move beyond fossil energy.
Around the world, waste is being turned into sustainable aviation fuel, clean-burning heat for industrial applications, valuable raw materials and more, while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. And this is only the beginning. 91²Ö¿â-to-energy solutions will play an increasingly central role in how we manage resources in the decades ahead.
CPM’s advanced densification and processing systems help operators unlock this untapped potential. Our technology efficiently converts both organic and inorganic waste into biofuels and other renewable energy sources, delivering reliable, scalable performance for waste-to-fuel and waste-to-energy operations.

Turning a Global Problem into a Global Opportunity
The world generates an enormous amount of waste each year, and the volume keeps climbing. The World Bank has estimated more than 2 billion tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) are created annually, a figure projected to hit 3.4 billion tons by 2050.
Responsible management of that growing waste stream is essential for the planet’s long-term health. While recycling and reuse efforts are expanding—with initiatives ranging from converting used tennis balls into playground surfaces to turning discarded plastics into durable building materials—a new frontier is gaining momentum: converting waste directly into usable fuels.
Taking the Fossil Out of Fuel
CPM’s waste-to-fuel solutions provide a practical path for industries looking to reduce landfill use and greenhouse gas emissions by converting waste streams into clean, renewable energy.
Virtually any waste product you can imagine—from household garbage to industrial by-products, agricultural leftovers, and more—can be transformed into high-value fuels using a range of processes including anaerobic digestion, biogas digestion, pyrolysis, gasification, and more.
Unlocking the Power of Sustainability
91²Ö¿â-to-fuel delivers environmental benefits on two fronts: it prevents methane emissions by diverting materials away from landfills, and it supplies cleaner fuels that replace traditional fossil energy.
The potential climate impact is enormous. Some estimates show that waste to fuel could produce CO2 reductions/sequestration of more than 6 gigatons between 2020 and 2050.
As global demand for low-carbon solutions accelerates, these technologies are poised to play a major role in long-term emissions reduction.
The Soaring Demand for Sustainable Aviation Fuel
One of the fastest growing applications for waste-to-fuel techology is the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), a critical tool for decarbonizing air travel. Both the EU and United States have set aggressive targets to expand SAF use over the next decade.
Recently, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) projected that airlines will need 2.3 million tons of SAF by 2030—a ten-fold increase over today’s roughly 0.24 million tons of production capacity.
To close that gap will require a rapid expansion through the decade, with waste-derived SAF playing a central role.
