The City of Lawrence鈥檚 2026 Electronics听Recycling Event brought in a major community response on August 8, collecting 100,220 pounds of electronics听for听recycling. This year鈥檚 event was held at a new location, the Douglas County Fairgrounds, and welcomed 1,077 vehicles throughout the day. Residents brought in a wide variety of old, unused and hard-to-recycle听electronics, helping keep more than 50 tons of material out of the landfill.
Items included 85 cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions and more than 560 flat screen televisions and monitors. Event staff and volunteers also recycled 800 pounds of cardboard generated during the event. The annual听Electronics听Recycling听Event gives Douglas County residents a safe, responsible and convenient way to recycle听electronics听that should not go in trash or听recycling听carts. Items such as televisions, monitors, computers, printers, cords, small appliances and other听electronics听can contain materials that require special handling, making proper听recycling听an important part of responsible waste management.
