Plans to open a recycling center in Montgomery County are taking shape after officials authorized the advertisement of a request for proposal. The request for proposal approved sought “design consulting services for a dedicated recycling drop-off center to improve accessibility and expand recycling opportunities to include curbside materials, electronic waste materials and other recyclable items.”

“Such a facility would streamline the recycling process, enhance convenience, and reduce waste,” the request for proposal states. The proposed facility is slated to accept cardboard, computers, glass, metal packaging, plastic, scrap metal, televisions, textiles, as well as possible “organic yard and food waste.” The site would also permit “high volume recycling” efforts, according to the request for proposal.

“It’s something that our residents across Montgomery County have asked for and wanted for a very long time,” said Montgomery County Commissioners’ Chairwoman Jamila Winder.
