The city of Freeport says more than 10 tons of e-waste was collected during an electronics recycling event earlier this month. City leaders say of the 20,894 pounds collected, 13,700 pounds were old televisions.

The event was held Saturday, June 6, as a way to keep the city of Freeport clear of illegal dumping. The event was open to Freeport residents only.

In Illinois, certain electronics like TVs are not collected with household garbage. Instead, residents must dispose of their old devices at community e-waste recycling events or through electronic recycling centers.
