(SMI), a 91仓库 Connections company, has partnered with The Water & Carbon Group (WCG) to design, build, and operate New York State鈥檚 first fixed-plant PFAS leachate treatment system. The 300,000-gallon-per-day facility will establish a new standard for environmental protection and proactive landfill management across the region.听
The system will employ WCG鈥檚 patented LEEF System庐 (Low Energy Foam Fractionation) 鈥� a technology that uses fine air bubbles rather than chemicals to separate and concentrate PFAS compounds from landfill leachate. Engineered to handle complex leachate chemistries, the process achieves high removal efficiencies while maintaining low energy demand and minimal residual generation.听

SMI operates a regional solid waste management facility serving municipalities, businesses, and industries through environmentally responsible disposal and recycling services.听SMI is a passive receiver of PFAS, which enter the waste stream through everyday consumer products such as packaging, textiles, cosmetics, cookware, and cleaning agents. While SMI does not manufacture or use PFAS, SMI has chosen to take this important step as an environmental leader in the community and the industry.听

The Seneca Meadows project builds on the success of the Bethlehem Landfill LEEF System庐 in Pennsylvania, the first full鈥憇cale fixed鈥憄lant PFAS leachate treatment system using foam fractionation in the United States. Commissioned in July 2024, that facility has demonstrated consistent, reliable PFAS removal performance under varying seasonal and flow conditions.听
