Ontario County is hosting its second public comment period — including a second public presentation in Phelps — on its draft Local Solid 91²Ö¿â Management Plan, which emphasizes a reduction in solid-waste production ahead of the county landfill’s closure at the end of 2028.

Carla Jordan, director of the Department of Sustainability and Solid 91²Ö¿â Management, said the county is updating its LSWMP to “provide a countywide framework for the coordination of solid waste management in an environmentally safe and economically sustainable manner for the next 10 years.â€

The plan, which is being reviewed by the Department of Environmental Conservation, will establish solid-waste management goals and objectives, including a waste-reduction goal and a plan to monitor progress in alignment with state requirements.
