A St. Louis mayoral task force is proposing major changes to how St. Louis handles trash and recycling. The task force says the city should get rid of alley dumpsters and give households individual roll carts for trash, recycling and yard waste.
Earlier this week, the task force unveiled a draft of recommendations aimed at modernize the city’s waste management system. Key recommendations include phasing out alley dumpsters, assigning 95-gallon roll carts to every home, and implementing a flat fee to support the transition.
According to the task force, alley dumpsters contribute to widespread issues, such as mixing trash with recyclables and the potential for illegal dumping of hazardous waste. The dumpsters, according to the task force, make it difficult for the city to hold anyone accountable.
