The land has been cleared for a 70-acre, state-of-the-art commercial composting center on Limoneira Company property in Santa Paula. The joint venture project by Limoneira Company and Agromin marks an expansion from the existing 15-acre green waste composting site at the location that has been in operation by Agromin since 2004.
The expanded site is expected to begin operations in the second half of 2027 and will be capable of processing about 295,000 tons of organic waste per year into compost and mulch. The current facility, which remains operating while construction is underway, is the only permitted commercial composting center in Ventura County.
“This larger center is greatly needed,” says Bill Camarillo, Agromin CEO. “Under SB 1383, jurisdictions must divert 75 percent of their organic waste from landfills and then compost and distribute the resulting materials. There aren’t enough processing facilities to meet the demand. The Santa Paula location will be a big help.”
Last year, Agromin opened the first dedicated food waste recycling center in Ventura County. Food waste is dropped off at the site located in Oxnard by waste haulers. The waste is shredded, cleaned and made into food waste slurry. The slurry is then turned into renewable natural gas, organic fertilizers, animal feed pellets and compost.
